FIGURES OF THE ELUSIVE
POLITICS OF THE SKY
Andrea Gunnlaugsdottir & Claudia Lomoschitz
The climate’s culmination and manifestation in the shapes of clouds, cohabitating the atmosphere and influencing - what we call - public space is a sensitive and complex feedback system under the threat of a warming climate. Cumulus opens up practices of acknowledging the sky, creating moments of bonding with the surrounding environment that is our shared cohabitation. Andrea Gunnlaugsdóttir and Claudia Lomoschitz invite the participants within the audio-visual performance to witness movements, choreographies and politics of the sky through a feminist gaze.

The video work examines the emptied architecture of Semmelweis Clinic, one of the first clinics dedicated to women’s health solely. The pavilions were con-structed from 1908 till 1910, as a state orphanage, where in 1909 the first ex-isting human milk bank, preserving breast milk for infants in need, was estab-lished. Ignaz Semmelweis opened a clinic for women’s health in these buildings in 1943 which operated for 76 years as an influential health center for women. The site of the clinic became an object of speculation at the expense of wo-men’s health commodification.
